2004 Summer Meeting
The 2004 Summer Meeting was held in Cancun, Mexico on June 23-27, 2004 at the Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas. All will agree that their time in paradise was well worth the trip. LVMA hosted many veterinarians from all over the state of Louisiana as well as veterinarians from Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina and Texas. Many thanks to all those who attended!
A total of 12 Continuing Education credits were available at the Summer Meeting. J. R. “Bert” Dodd, DVM from Austin, TX made dentistry fun during his two-day lecture on Practical Veterinary Dentistry. Pfizer Animal Health sponsored Dr. Dodd’s lecture. Also speaking was Gustavo Garcia-Sanchez, DVM from Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Garcia-Sanchez gave an in depth lecture on Differential Diagnosis and Diagnostic Techniques for Blue and Red Eyes and A Approach to Glaucoma.
Participants also had the opportunity to visit with exhibitors J.D. McCoy, Randy Travis and Robbie Van Mullem with IDEXX Laboratories and Michell Quintus with Novartis Animal Health. In addition, Fort Dodge and Diagnostic Imaging Systems, Inc. sent promotional items for distribution to the attendees. IDEXX Laboratories, also, sponsored a deep sea fishing trip for the veterinarians and their guests.
It wasn’t all work and no play. While the mornings were designated for business, many spent the afternoons having fun in the sun! Attendees and their guests enjoyed just lounging on the beach watching the beautiful Caribbean Sea wash upon the shore while sipping a cool beverage and munching on salsa and guacamole. Some were not content just watching the surf, instead they dove in and went snorkeling, scuba diving, or deep sea fishing. Others showed their competitive side with a game of pool volleyball. There was also excursions to the Mayan ruins, boat tours, shopping at Market 28 and many restaurants offering local cuisine. Cancun offered something for everyone.
The Omni Hotel welcomed the LVMA registrants at a cocktail reception on Wednesday evening. A full breakfast buffet was provided every morning for veterinarians and their guests before the lectures, and during the day everyone was welcomed at the hospitality suite. On Saturday, the summer meeting concluded with a Mexican buffet. The Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas offered excellent service and was very attentive to all our guests needs.
